Butter 9x13 baking pan
Spread enough shredded frozen hash brown potatoes to fill pan
Pour into pan 1 can cream of chicken, or celery, or mushroom--only if Dawn isn't eating with you
Pour into pan 1 small container of sour cream
1 small onion chopped small
1 can green chili (optional if you weren't raise in New Mexico)
(Note: chopped fresh chives work good if no green chili is available)
About 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese
2 tsp garlic salt
pepper to taste
Mix all these ingredients into hash brown potatoes. Can be done in the baking pan with hands, but can be messy and cold.
After all ingredients are mixed, pat down with hand in baking pan. Add layer of more shredded cheese on top of mixture. Finish with thin layer of bread crumbs. Cover with foil and place in oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. Check, if bubbling and cheese is melted, remove foil for final 5 to 8 minutes.
