2 cups shortening
1 1/4 cup sugar
3 egg yokes, or 2 whole eggs
2 Tbs. vanilla
2 tsp anise seed
6 cups of flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup water
1 tsp salt
7 Tbs white wine ( water can be substituted with a tsp vinegar)
Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
Add anise seed and beaten eggs, beating for a few seconds.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add to first mixture.
Add water and mix well. (use how every much water it takes to make good "roll out cookie" dough)
Roll out and cut with cookie cutter
Sprinkle cookies with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
Bake at 390 degrees for about 12 minutes, or golden brown.
Makes about 8 dozen small cookies
